Every year, there are millions of dogs and cats that are killed for the purpose of trading and consumption in Vietnam. For animal lovers, especially those who hold a special place in their hearts for dogs and cats, this is unacceptable. Therefore, stemming from the love and compassion for these adorable companions, WINVN is participating in the Virtual Run – Running for the Millions of Dogs and Cats project organized by Four Paws. We hope to contribute a small effort towards eradicating the consumption of cats in Vietnam.

The Issue of Trading and Consuming Dog and Cat Meat in Vietnam

According to data released by FOUR PAWS, up to 6 million dogs and cats are slaughtered for meat each year. In a survey conducted by FOUR PAWS, it was found that 6.3% of Vietnamese people consume dog and cat meat. However, a staggering 88% of people support the government’s issuance of a ban on eating dog and cat meat. The majority of this support comes from the younger population who back this prohibition.

This demonstrates that awareness about the killing of dogs and cats among the youth in Vietnam has been elevated. Many young individuals possess a conscious commitment to safeguarding these small companions. With a team of young individuals who harbor a deep love for dogs and cats, WINVN aims to contribute in hopes of helping Vietnam tackle this issue.
